What is the first thought that crosses your mind when you see someone with a disability? Do you have someone close to you living with a disability or do you know a person who has a disability? Now let me disclose this, that I am married to someone who is visually impaired (totally blind) for the past four and a half years. I live a happy life and we have been blessed with a 3-year-old adorable daughter, her name is Serene. What made me marry someone with a disability? Let me start by saying that in my wildest dreams, I never imagined being married to one with a disability.

Actually, in my immediate family, there is no one of such kind neither did I grow up seeing someone like him. And so, the answer to this question is just simple; LOVE is what made me get married, I found love true love, I found peace in him i cant explain, I found a caring nature,  I found in noe one else, I found warmth in him, and the greatest of them all is that he fears God, an element that I highly value. I see behold in his disability. I focus on his strength and I can tell you that he is a man of greatness.

The greatest disability in life is having a negative attitude. It is difficult to help such a person; it is hard to succeed with a negative attitude, no matter if they are disabiled or not. You will agree with me that if you are of short nature, you will need someone taller than you to reach out to something at a higher level, or you may need to climb a ladder or a stool to fetch it. This is the same case for someone with a disability who will just need a helping hand to reach out to for what he or she needs and do whatever he or she desires once he has it at hand. I have come to learn that each person is endowed with great potential within.

My husband inspires my life. Sometimes I forget that he cannot see up to until society puts a reminder in me. Are there no challenges that we have faced as a family? Well, like any other marriage, I can tell you that we have faced many challenges together. However, we have learned to rise above our challenges and focus on our potential. God has been our strength. Through Him, we have come this far. Our secret strength has been trusting in God.
